Port of Algeciras, Southern Spain

Algeciras

Pennine, part of Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) have been awarded a €1.6m contract to install 1,953 vibro stone columns (VSCs) using their bespoke marine Aquacaster equipment at the port of Algeciras in Southern Spain for client Fomento De Construcciones Y Contratas (FCC). The stone columns are required to strengthen the seabed in preparation for the widening of the existing quay wall with caissons to facilitate a new oil pipeline and fuel vessel berth. More details.

Value engineered ground improvement solution in Haslingden

Ground improvement specialists Pennine have recently completed a £250,000 contract for Rok Construction at Haslingden, Lancashire.  

 

Pennine’s work was in preparation for three two-storey office blocks and associated external areas being developed by Lancashire County Council's economic development department, Lancashire County Developments Limited(LCDL). More details.

Pennine creates flood storage area for White Cart Water

Whitecart

For nearly a century White Cart Water has inflicted serious flooding on homes and other properties on the south side of Glasgow. This shallow, fast flowing river is prone to flash flooding and only 12 hours of rain can raise water levels by 6m. More than 20 significant floods have taken place since 1908 and, in 1984, over 500 homes were inundated.

Leading ground improvement specialist Pennine, part of Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering, is continuing to expand its contracting business with the opening of a new office in Dublin.  The move will increase Pennine’s presence in Ireland following the opening of a Belfast office in 2008 and will allow the company to provide a local service to clients in Eire.

BBGE ExCeL’s in ground work challenge

In a project that presented a unique combination of challenges, Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) has completed the foundations work for the extension of ExCeL London, working with main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd. The 14-week project, worth in the region of £2.6 million to BBGE, allowed construction to begin on an extension to the existing halls, a new conference centre and ancillary facilities.
